The history of the festival

The history of the Wireless Festival began in 2005. Then it was held for the first time in London and became quite popular. Its first sponsor was the telecommunications company O2. It supported the project until 2008. During its entire existence, the festival changed its name many times, but it didn’t affect its popularity in any way. Such famous bands as Basement Jaxx, Kasabian, New Order and Keane performed on its stage in 2005. In 2007, the festival reached such a scale that there was a need to create a camping site on its territory. In general, the event lasted from June 14 to June 17. In 2009, the event was supported by Barclaycard, and the duration of the festival was shortened to two days. In 2009-2010, Kanye West, LCD Soundsystem, Basement Jaxx, Jay-Z and other famous performers appeared on its stage as well.

In 2011, the festival focused more on hip-hop and other genres of music, although previously, the event was dedicated exclusively to rock and pop music. Thus, festival-goers heard songs by The Black Eyed Peas and The Chemical Brothers. It is also worth noting that the ticket price also increased and it was almost impossible to get them even two or three weeks in advance. Every year, the festival expanded the number of places and invited more and more famous stars. Of course, the organisers sometimes faced problems. For example, in 2018, several performers refused to participate, although the program was already published and the first tickets were put on sale. Also, the festival changed its location several times. However, the organisers always tried to compensate for all inconveniences. Probably, that’s why the festival remains so popular and gathers about 50,000 people every year.

Why is the London Wireless Festival so special?

The Wireless Festival fills people’s lives with bright colours, incredible sensations and new emotions. Most of the visitors come here to get away from the daily routine and immerse themselves in the world of music. It is a perfect place to spend time with friends or family members. If you are planning to visit the festival, you should take care of commuting in advance. During the festival, some streets are closed and public transport becomes overloaded. It is worth thinking through the time of your stay and the distance to your place of residence, taking into account possible delays. In general, almost all the rules during such events are the same. There are food courts and bathrooms on the territory of the event, so there is no need to take along a lot of things. In addition, here, you can refill your bottles with water for free. Organisers try to provide comfort for guests but ask them to follow the rules and not litter in return.
